post-Ich Treatment question?

Friday, March 13th, 2009
Somewhat long story but ill try to sum it up. I have some neon tetras and a pleco who contracted Ich when I introduced a betta (Who did not survive the infection). Anyway, I quarantined the tetras in a separate tank from the pleco as they dont react well to the medication I have for ich (Contains malachite green) so I decided to try another treatment I read about. Basically it involves tank swapping, Every morning Id take them out of the tank and put them into another tank, then dumping and cleaning the original with boiling water and put it aside for the next morning. I repeated this process for about a week.

The ich salt grains disappeared, they swam and acted normal again and I put them back into the main tank, as they had started eating again as well. However, in the places where they had the ich spots, there is now dull gray splotches under the flesh. Its not bumpy or unusual in terms of topography except the fact that it interupts their color stripes and is gray.

Is this just there way of repairing the wounds from Ich? I dont mind if they are scars, Im just hoping its not some more problems I have to deal with.

P.S. The supplier of those bettas is known to distribute bettas with ich, so I wont be buying bettas when they come from there any longer.
Im assuming they are scars myself, at least I hope they are. I examined them today, it seems that the stripes on them are returning

As for my method of treatment, I will from this point on use that as my only method to treat ich should I see that vicious plague again. I made the fish as comfortable as possible, I imagine they didnt like it.. but they lived, started playing again and started eating again, within two days.. I dragged it for the week to be positive they were better.
