Who’s Ready For Mavericks Today?

Saturday, May 30th, 2009
Today Mavericks surf contest is happening right now. Smooth waves with faces expected in the 25-30 foot range. 30K to the winner. The topography of the shelf just off pillar point has massive open ocean swells in one spot causing waves to suddenly double in size. 24 big wave riders will face the challenge and the reigning champion Grant Baker will be in attendance. We will be thankful if they all leave the water safely today and report to my question their experience of surviving another year at Mavericks.

Can you help me translate these words into Spanish?

Friday, May 29th, 2009
I have this big paper due IN SPANISH tomorrow. First off, if you’re just going to use an internet site, don’t. My teacher said she’ll know (because they have WEIRD translations sometimes) and count off points. Second off, I have no Spanish-English dictionary, so no, I can’t do it myself. I need these words translated:

to meditate (I got Meditar don’t know if it’s right) We meditate on the Word
grammar (I got grama’tica) We practice grammar
literature (I got literatura) We read literature
dissect (I got diseque) We dissect animals
talk about (Hablamos maybe?) We talk about….
topography ( I got topografía) We look at topography
music (I got música) We practice music
sight reading [a piece of music] (I got la vista que lee) WE practice sight reading.
to exercise (I got ejercitar) We exercise and…

Thank you so much!! :) :) :) :) :) to run (I got funcionar but I remember some ‘c’ or ‘n’ word coming up) We run.

musceles ( I got músculos) We stretch our muscles

Homework Help?

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009
Well In School We Are Learning About Topography. I had to do some homework on it. Ita lot of our total grade so I wanted to ask my parents to check. Well it seems they are clueless and cannot help me. Well I was wondering if I post my answers someone could be nice enough to check if they are right :).

7. Index contours can be identified because the lines are deeper and heavier then the regular contour lines.

8. If you are looking at a USGS map of your area and see that the scale is 1:24,000 that means that every 1 centimeter on the map equals 0.24 kilometers.

9. A contour line on a topographic map cannot connect a point of elevation that is 100 feet to a point of elevation that is 110 feet. The reason is because contour lines only connect points of equal elevation.

10. On a topographic map to show an island with an elevation of 80 feet and a contour interval of 10 feet you would have to draw eight different contour lines.
11. A person who snow skies or hikes can use a topographic map to know at which point the elevation is becoming higher. Also the skier/hiker could find out using the map where the steep or gentle slopes are.
PS - I know that I didnt include the questions but Those will take a long time to type :). But I think you guys should be able to tell what the questions are by reading the answers. Thank You All.
